know about kaolinite

Kaolin mining usually refers to clay or clay rock that contains certain amount of the clay minerals of the kaolinite subfamily. Kaolinite mineral can be divided into clay mineral and non-clay mineral.

Clay mineral: Kaolinite, dickite, pearl clay, variable kaolinite ( 1.0nm and 0.7nm halloysite ), mica and montmorillonite.

Non-clay mineral: Quartz, feldspar, mica and other detrital minerals such as magnetite, rutile, alunite, gibbsite, a diaspore and a water soft- boehmite.

Beneficiation and separation of kaolinite sand

Usually, the properties of minerals determined the beneficiation methods. There are two different methods of kaolinite beneficiation, namely, wet method and dry method. Hard kaolin usually use the dry method and soft kaolin wet method.

The dry beneficiation process is a simple and economic process. Firstly, the hammer crusher broken raw ore to 25.4mm before feeding into cage crusher. In the cage crusher, the particle size is reduced to 6.35mm and the hot air inside the cage crusher decreasing the water content of kaolinite from 20% to 10%.

Wet beneficiation process including three stages: ore preparation, ore dressing and processing and product handling. The preparation stage includes communition, crushing operations. Beneficiation stage includes hydraulic classification, flotation, selective flocculation, magnetic separation and chemical processing steps.

Besides, the purpose of flotation separation is to remove titanium impurities. Due to the size of impurities is too small, we usually use calcite and silica as carrier in flotation separation.
